Welcome to cgmRigs

This is the first update for one of first teams – cgmRigs.

What is a team you ask? Teams are how we’re going to go about making stuff together. This team is about rigs and only rigs. When we get rolling this team will help us decide what to make after we release our first couple of rigs. We’ve started the landing page for the team but it’s still very WIP.

We’re currently in soft launch by invite only. When we go live, this content and most assets will be behind a paywall.

A few things about how we’ll plan on doing rigs:

  • Our rigs will not require online license checking.
  • They will all be built with our rig system – MRS. As such they will play nicely and you’ll be able to use our expanding toolset to use those rigs.
  • You will have assets unlocked on your account with us either by subscribing or just buying a rig. When that asset is unlocked you will always be able to go back to that asset page and get updated builds for the rig.

Those updates will look kinda like this on the page.

NOTE – Morpheus 2 Backers will be getting free subscriptions to this team for periods of time commensurate with their non-refunded backing level. Trying to figure out the logistics for getting these coupons/vouchers out. More in a week or two

Currently we have two assets in our production queue. This team will not go “live” until we have an asset ready to roll.


This is a Unity Medium targeted Morpheus male variant we’re using to start our new Morpheus plans (more on that in another post)

LBS Base

This is a unity low/toon asset that we’ve had on slow burn a long time now. It’s a very different style to Morpheus’s look.

  • We already have a pile of customization hairs for it to implement.
  • Matt is currently working on the first batch of clothes.
  • Waiting on body update mesh from Matt and I’ll get the proxy for this asset up.

When the Team Goes Live

After we go live, this team will be the guiding voice on what we develop next.

  • Another Morpheus variant – maybe a female base?
  • Maybe just a costume for mDrake
  • Perhaps you all just want some hair dos
  • Want a collection of beginner rigs – ball, flour sack and more?
  • Do we do an animation contest of team members and let the winner design the next asset?

The team will decide what goes in the queue as well as perpetually giving feedback and feature requests for how we make stuff. We’ll decide when we can tackle each item depending on available modules and resources. The bigger the team, the more we do.

Josh Burton

[MRS Project Lead | CG Monks] Josh is an animator turned TD who hails from Oklahoma, pre-undergrad in the Marine Corps, animation basics at Savannah College of Art and Design, cut his teeth in gaming and commercials before co-founding CG Monks and more recently the CG Monastery. The Morpheus Rigging System is a culmination of years of R&D and he is now thrilled to see what users can create, collaborate and expand on with this open source MRS platform.
