Welcome

Welcome to MRS Maker’s Workshop. This course is a partnership with our friends at Rigging Dojo who are helping us facilitate it via this site.

About your Instructor

Hi, I’m Josh Burton. Most folks know me from the Morpheus Rig. I’ve been working in animation/games industry for about 15 years professionally and I was a graphic designer a while during and after my tour in the Marine Corps prior to attending school.

I graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2005. Worked at Midway games a few years and then went freelance working on a wide variety of game, film and commercial projects over the years.

During that time I started making rigs for release as a way to generate work for myself doing Squirrely and Morpheus.

In 2012, my fellow CG Monk and good friend David Bokser and I had an idea for Morpheus 2.0 and launched a Kickstarter to that end. It was fully funded and then some and I began work in earnest trying to fulfill our plans.

Weeks turned to months, then to years as I worked and reworked things trying to make something that I was proud to put my name on. During those years I also became a father and my time was strained for long periods.

In 2016 I had a version of Morpheus 2 that worked but it was overly technical and frankly I wasn’t satisfied. After a lot of thought I decided that I could no longer ask the original backers to wait longer and I wasn’t okay with saying ‘here’ with what I had. So I offered everyone their money back and took some time to retool.

It is a difficult thing to face your own failures. To admit yourself incapable.
However that failure is what pushed us to create MRS which is better to me than what Morpheus 2 was going to be.

It’s been a joy to see how far it has come in the last year. A little over a year ago all it could do was simple single joint setups. What a year has brought.

There are things each of you have that would add to what MRS may be. I hope that as you learn the system you see that potential and in the end we can make some amazing work, push the system and one another’s abilities and see how far we can go.

Let’s make something!
